Dropping in on the A listers in Malibu
10 Sep - We had finally outstayed our welcome with the Channel Islands yacht club so it was now toime to push on. After working out time and distances we realised that we couldn't quite make it all the way to MArina Del Rey in Los Angeles in one day, but it would be almost too short for a night sail so we decided that we would break the journey by anchoring in Paradise Cove, Malibu. The forecast for the day was for lightish winds as ever, building in the late afternoon (we sense a bit of a theme here!) and so we left around 10 expecting to be motoring for a while. The wind however was up around 10 knots so instead we managed to get the sails out for a while. IT was still a bit light though so we switched from the Genoa to the Spinnaker and then had a lovely few hours on the cruising chute in glorious sunshine again. With the wind building, and our course needing to be a bit more downwind we then switched to our poled out genoa and had a great sail towards Dume Point, just before Paradise cove. As we have got used to rounding the point was a bit messy so we pulled in the sails and motored the last couple of miles and of course, as we approached our planned anchoring spot the wind decied to pick up to around 20 knots! Unphased now though in anchoring in these sort of conditions we dropped the hook and plenty of chain then had a chance to look around - Paradise cove certainly suited its name and looking at some of the properties I can see why it is a mecha for the super rich. We felt very smug sitting on our boat in the middle of all this wealth knowing that few people get to gaup at these properties from their best side!
Who lives in a house like this 2 (maybe this is their second property after Carmel!)
11 Sep - After a fairly comfortable night on the hook we were up and at'em early the next morning weighing anchor at around 09:00. in another clear sunny day we motored along the coast by Maibu having another day of 'houses of the rich and famous' We managed to sail for a bit but then we were back to motoring into MArina Del Rey, the capital of boating around here. After passing hundreds of other boats we pulled up at the Pacific MAriners yacht club and squeezed into their guest dock (it was 13 feet wide - our boat is 12'9 so with the fenders out we are wedged in! After settling in and meeting a couple of the members we headed off for a walk down to Venice beach and along the Pier
