Kicking back and boat jobs in Ensenada
Oct 19 - 25 The joys of settling into a routine! - after the continual movement of the last few weeks Heidi and I have enjoyed settling into a more steady life here in Ensenada. In lovely sunny weather we've got used to the slower pace of life and our Spanish is slowly improving with a lot of help from Google translate and our 'Spanish for Cruisers' guidebook! In addition I've managed to get into the habit of going for a run in the hills around here regularly which is a great start to the day.
Our days are starting to fall into a pattern of working on boat jobs in the morning and then going into town in the afternoon to shop or get anything done that is needed. Evenings are quieter but the community here is quite lively and if we feel like heading out there is invariably some others to go out with. As to the boat jobs, we have worked through most of our somewhat excessive list. Just to give you a flavor below are the many jobs we have managed to knock off this week:
- Change key barrel on engine starter (hopefully finally fix the fault when turning the key!)
- fix water pump on generator (it had seized)
- Change fuel filters on engine to stop it bogging down
- fix windscreen cover
- Replace line that held anchor on deck
- Repair/Review dock lines
- Secure Microwave (it fell out in a particularly violent sea earlier)
- Fix Bow thruster (blown fuse)
- Adjust pre-bend on mast to hopefully improve mainsail furling
- Service outboard
- Find a sailmaker to build sunshade and work with him on design
- Test run diving gear (our Air Buddy - we hadn't tried it in the water yet!)
- Organize for rudder bearing and part for generator to be delivered from the US prior to haul out
- Work with Guillermo and the shipyard to prep for the haul out next week
Other than this, cleaning the boat, daily trips to the shops for food and dealing with the usual fun of life onboard is making sure we don't get too lazy!
