Relaxing in the Pinkertons

18 July - Benjy's mate comes calling and moving onto the Pinkerton Islands

We woke to another glorious day with no fog and decided that we didn’t’ need to move until later in the day. We lazed around the boat and I even went for a swim in surprisingly warm water. Around 10:30 Heidi herd some snuffling in the woods close to shore and then we had a black bear come and join us on the shoreline for a little brunch.

At 11:00 we weighed anchor and headed to the Pinkerton group of islands. With a name like that crying out for a visit. On the way the autopilot died which was a bit worrying but in glorious weather, after only an hour and a half we found a wonderful anchorage tucked in to the Coast of Vancouver Island.
After settling we traced the fault with the autopilot (a blown fuse) and then we got out the SUPs and went for a lovely paddle around the lagoon just north west of the anchorage and wondered whether we should harvest some of the wonderful oyster beds that lay around. Back n the boat I had another swim and then a pleasant evening with ‘Steak Frites’ for dinner before reading late into the night.
19 July - 'Hummingbird Bay' in the Pinkerton Islands

Waking again in such a perfect location we decided there really wasn't any reason to move!. The weather was perfect and so we stayed put in the Pinkertons. Later in the day we took off on the kayak and SUP again and explored the islands to the SW. Afer cruising around for an hour or so we bumped into Brent from RVYC who was just dropping anchor not far away. Back to the boat though and as we sat soaking up the rays we kept getting buzzed by inquisitive hummingbirds. After putting out some sugar water we enjoyed being constantly kept comapny by the hummin gof their wings. A relaxing dinner followed by a sunset SUP and spectacular evening views rounded off a wonderfully relaxing day.
