Holidays at last!

17 July - Pipestem inlet
Again on waking the weather was fair and we headed out of Ucluelet for some R&R. Lining up down loud on and David Channel we had the wind right behind us so we put out the genoa and ran straight downwind at a pleasant 4.5 Knots pretty much all the way to Pipestem inlet. After going up to cataract cove we spotted boats already in the one or two places that could take BeTrue and so we headed back down the inlet eventually anchoring off Bassett Island. Once settled we got down the dinghy and motored over to Lucky Creek, puttering slowly all the way up the creek to a beautiful set of waterfalls at it’s head. We then headed down and with the tide being high, managed o cruise in and around the lagoon to the east of cataract cove. Being in the lagoon reminded us of some of the lagoons we had ventured into in the Broughtons; entering a hidden world where Dinosaurs really wouldn’t be out of place. On the way out of the lagoon we passed a little temporary encampment where an old guy was just sitting on his little ramshackle fishing camp. We pulled in and spent some time chatting with him and then headed back to the boat. By now the wind had changed fully 180 degrees and the boat was lying close to a drying shore. After some deliberation we decided we needed to find a new spot for the night and moved further towards the north shore, dropping the hook in a lovely little bay. That evening was dead calm and we thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility as we watched the sun set.
