We Have Begun!
Heidi's last day at work was yesterday (I had been a 'resting consultant' for the last six months!). After handing her laptop in we had retired to the boat and drinks with Janet and Darryl, our neighbours and mentors at the Inner Harbour, Victoria.
With tide against us though, we knew we had a late start for the day so we could have a lazy morning recovering from the nigh before, carrying out final adjustments and getting ready to push off from the last dock we could call home for 4 or more years!
Around 11 we started our pre-departure checks (yes we have a checklist) and we were motoring out of the harbour by 11:30 (at least we know we would be back at the end of June so it wasn't a final farewell yet!

We pushed our nose out of the harbour past the "Saphire Princess" (a slightly different cruising experience!) and pointed our bow east to go around the bottom of the island and into Haro straight. We had a good run to cadboro bay and were little bothered by currents going past discovery island. Once through the many small islets we headed north and with a steady easterly wind, set the sails and turned off the engine. For the next couple of hours we headed north with the magical soundtrack of water against the hull as we pressed north in light winds (but making over five knots we were very happy). As we came level with Darcy island though the winds died and we reverted to the iron horse for the rest of the journey. Around 4 it started raining and, after dodging the many ferries north of Swanson Channel we carried on motoring into Montague Harbour around 6:30pm. We picked up a buoy in heavy drizzle but that didn't bother us as we headed below decks and cooked up a hearty meal of bangers and chips before heading for bed
