Threading the needle through Chatham Channel
We woke early on Tuesday morning in order to hit slack water going through Chatham Channel, but not as early as our neighbours overnight who must have been off before 05:30.
Chatham Channel is a very shallow, narrow channel for which you have to use leading markers, another first for us. We cautiously lined ourselves up and headed through as slow as we dare but luckily we had no major issues. Once out of the narrow channel the rest of the head up to Lagoon CoveMarina was straight forward in overcast weather. Pulling into Knight inlet we got caught up in some nasty choppy seas and crept round the north end of Minstrel island before heading into Clio Channel and onto the marina as it started to brighten up.
We were early at the marina and met with the owners, Dan and Kelly, two Minnesotans who had sold everything on a whim to settle in this far flung corner. They were excellent hosts and we had a great afternoon and evening meeting a number of other boaters as they arrived.
